On February 25, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson submitted written testimony in opposition to SB 25-080, legislation that would allow credit unions to purchase state banks with approval from the State Banking Board. This bill could have unintended consequences on small business lending in rural Colorado communities, especially for the small agricultural businesses that are the backbone of farming communities.

On February 19, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson testified in support of House Bill 25-1090, legislation that would provide greater transparency in pricing of goods, services and property for both consumers and small businesses, including common area maintenance (CAM) fees for small businesses.

On February 19, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson testified in support of House Bill 25-1021, legislation that would extend Colorado’s Employee Ownership Tax Credit to Establish or Expand through income tax year 2037. It would also increase the percentage of conversion or expansion costs that are eligible to be claimed for the credit from 50% to 75% beginning in tax year 2026.

On February 14, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson submitted written testimony in oppostion to SB25-119, legislation that would repeal the Executive Director of the Department of Early Childhood’s rule-making authority and instead grant it to a school district-controlled board. This change would reduce efficiency, disrupt  program stability and limit parent and provider input in the rulemaking process.
