Small Business Majority has created a comprehensive state policy agenda to ensure entrepreneurship is at the center of a thriving and inclusive economy in New Mexico. It’s critical that state lawmakers enact short- and long-term policies to support and empower entrepreneurs by guaranteeing their access to capital, an infrastructure that can support their ability to offer quality jobs, and their ability to compete fairly now and in the future. To achieve these goals, policymakers should consider the following policy proposals. 

Today, John Arensmeyer submitted a comment letter for the Department of Labor's propsed rule on Employee or Independent Contractor Classification Under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Small Business Majority writes in support of AB 2589, which would make the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) more impactful and overall improve access to the California tax system for low to moderate income small business owners and employees. 

Small Business Majority writes in support of AB 2670, which would provide business assistance to small businesses hoping to make a positive social impact by providing jobs, training and support to employees who have barriers to employment.

Small Business Majority writes in support of AB 2226, which would expand the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development’s (GO-Biz) current activities related to geographically-based economic development areas to also include cultural districts. The legislation would also require GO-Biz to engage with the California Historic Preservation Commission on a range of economic development activities.

Small Business Majority writes in support of SB 633 (Limón), which will require that non-English speaking co-signers be given a translated notice disclosing the financial responsibilities that they will undertake if they sign a contract. This will benefit the many non-English speaking small business owners in our state by ensuring they receive a copy of contracts and leases they sign in the language they speak.
