Small Business Majority supports the Georgia Economic Growth Act

On March 4, Small Business Majority submitted a letter in support of the Georgia Economic Growth Act to the House Committee on Government Affairs at the Georgia General Assembly. The legislation will establish a State Office of Supplier Diversity, which would help increase supplier diversity in state contracts and expand procurement opportunities targeting minority-owned businesses in Georgia.

Small Business Majority testifies in support of legislation to address business identity fraud in Colorado

On February 24, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda testified before the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee on legislation that would allow business owners to file complaints and seek relief related to business identity theft through the Colorado Secretary of State.

Small Business Majority testifies in support of reducing business registration fees for Coloradan small businesses

On February 16, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda testified before the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee on reducing costly fees associated with business registrations for aspiring and current Colorado entrepreneurs. Reducing or waiving business-related fees will remove just one of the many financial barriers on entrepreneurs who are scrambling to keep their businesses afloat.

Long-time North Carolina entrepreneur doubles down on his commitment to support local small businesses

John Martin, the CEO and founder of the North Carolina-based consultancy group Martin-Sloane International and Martin & Company, is on his second-time around as an entrepreneur. 

He originally started a small IT consulting firm in 1994, which he eventually sold in 1997.

Small Business Majority Board Chair LaJuanna Russell testifies on why eliminating the debt limit will create certainty for small businesses

On February 16, LaJuanna Russell, founder and president of Business Management Associates, Inc. (BMA) and the Chair of the Board of Directors and a member of the Small Business Council for Small Business Majority, testified before the U.S. House Committee on the Budget on a proposal to eliminate the U.S. debt limit, which would help mitigate financial risks and uncertainty for businesses of all sizes.

Benevolence Farm’s social enterprise makes a difference for North Carolina women

Benevolence Farm, located in Graham, N.C., is a transitional living and employment program for women leaving North Carolina prisons. The farm grows and sells produce, flowers and herbs and manufactures soaps, lotions and candles with the support of the women participating in its programs.

According to their mission statement, “Benevolence Farm seeks to cultivate leadership, promote sustainable livelihoods, and reap structural change with individuals impacted by the criminal justice system in North Carolina.”

Small Business Majority 2021 Year in Review

This year, we continued to educate small business owners and entrepreneurs about important resources, funding options, policy updates and more that could help their businesses recover from the ongoing pandemic and become more resilient. Over the course of the year, we hosted and participated in more than 430 events, partnering with more than 300 organizations and stakeholders. These events garnered more than 20,000 event registrants  and indirectly reached 150,000 individuals.

For Rosie Arias, her mission is simple. She wants to keep the world warm one baby at a time.

Whimsical Charm, based out of Long Beach, Calif., was incorporated in 2011 after Rosie’s close friends began having children and she couldn’t find a blanket that was unique and different to gift them. This inspired her to use her fashion degree and sewing skills to make an easily-maintained, practical blanket that looked nice.

For Sarah O’Brien, owner and founder of Little Tart Bakeshop in Atlanta, this luscious produce is one of the main reasons she moved to the South to start her business in 2010.
