On October 22, Small Business Majority submitted a statement for the record in response to a U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing titled “Modernizing Health Care: How Shoppable Services Improve Outcomes and Lower Costs.” The statement underscores the importance of extending the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits which help lower healthcare premium costs for more than 4.4 million small business owners and entrepreneurs enrolled in the ACA Marketplace.

Small Business Leaders Join Press Event on Affordable Health Care

This week, Small Business Majority network member Andrea Deutsch participated in a press event hosted by Economic Security Project Action and Representative Adam Gray (D-CA) in support of the Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act of 2025.

The legislation would repeal the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and make enhanced premium tax credits permanent, strengthening access to affordable coverage for small business owners and their employees.

When John Arensmeyer launched Small Business Majority in 2005, he was trying to fill a gap in the advocacy space. As a former small business owner himself, he recognized that the overwhelming majority of entrepreneurs didn’t have the resources to receive meaningful attention from their elected officials. Small Business Majority cautions Congress against efforts to expand access to Association Health Plans

On July 16, Small Business Majority sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) in opposition to the Association Health Plans Act (S. 1847), which would destabilize small business health insurance markets by broadening access to Association Health Plans (AHPs) for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The expansion of AHPs, which are not subject to many Affordable Care Act (ACA) regulations, would result in higher premium costs for small group markets and leave small business owners and employees with inadequate coverage.
