Small Business Owner Submits Testimony Supporting Reinsurance in Virginia

Today, Tierra Henderson submitted written testimony to the House Committee on Labor and Commerce in support of HB 2332, which would establish a reinsurance program in Virginia. For Tierra, and other self-employed individuals, reinsurance programs help stabilize costs in the individual marketplace. HB 2332 is an important step forward for small businesses.

Small Business Majority Opposes SB 1341, Association Health Plans

Today, Small Business Majority sent a letter of opposition to the Virginia Assembly opposing SB 1341, association health plans. These plans would have negative impacts on the marketplace- and consequently on small businesses that already struggle with healthcare costs. On September 16, Small Business Majority submitted a letter to Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Alex M. Azar, Secretary of U.S. Department of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, Administrator of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Seema Verma, and Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy David J. Kautter expressing concern over how Georgia’s Section 1332 waiver could make affordable health care less accessible to Georgia small business owners.

The agenda for Virginia's Entrepreneurs: 2021 Regular Session

Entrepreneurs and small business owners: Open enrollment is underway!

This year we’ve seen how important it is for small business owners, their employees and their families to have access to health coverage. If you or your employees need to enroll in or renew your health insurance plans for 2021 through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) individual marketplace, your time is here. This open enrollment season is taking place from November 1 to December 15, and many will be eligible for premium assistance to help offset the cost of coverage.

Georgia Healthcare Agent Talks Open Enrollment and Supreme Court Hearings

With open enrollment for 2021 now live and U.S. Supreme Court hearings that could determine the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) happening this week, healthcare is top of mind for many small business owners. Rich Gordon, a solo-entrepreneur and healthcare agent in Georgia is amongst them. 

Rich actually started his business in response to the passing of the ACA. He had worked his entire career in health insurance and was approaching retirement. He saw the ACA as an opportunity to both help people and sustain an income in his retirement.

Small Business Majority files amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the Affordable Care Act

Small Business Majority filed an amicus brief today with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Texas v. U.S., which has challenged the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The brief urges the Supreme Court to fully uphold the Affordable Care Act and outlines how the law has benefited small businesses, self-employed entrepreneurs and small business employees who previously struggled to access quality, affordable health coverage.

Small Business Majority writes in support of CA SB852

Small Business Majority wrote to State Senator Richard Pan in support of SB 852, which would create the Office of Drug Contracting and Manufacturing in order to increase access to, and reduce the cost of, generic medications. We believe this is a key measure to controlling healthcare costs and improving access and affordability for consumers, including small business owners and their employees.
