As a leading representative of the four million small businesses in California, Small Business Majority writes to Senate Health Committee Chair to oppose SB 774 (Jones), which would severely limit the authority of California’s Attorney General to protect access to and affordability of hospital services provided by most hospitals in California. This would in turn impact healthcare costs for Californians, including members of the small business community who already struggle with access to affordable care.

As a leading representative of the four million small businesses in California, Small Business Majority writes to Assemblymember Wood to express support AB 1208 (Schiavo), which will dramatically reduce cost-sharing for Covered California enrollees. This is particularly important to entrepreneurs who struggle to afford healthcare costs.

On March 24, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda testified before the House Health & Insurance Committe to support HB 23-1215. This legislation will provide protections for Coloradans and small business owners from costs associated with abusive hospital facility fees.

Today, CEO and Founder John Arensmeyer offered written testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health hearing: "Why Health Care is Unaffordable." Mr. Arensmeyer offered a range of policy solutions to help address healthcare affordability issues and support America's diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem with access to quality coverage. 
 

On March 15, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda submitted written testimony to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee in support of SB 23-189, which will provide greater access to insurance-covered benefits for reproductive healthcare, and to explain why access to reproductive healthcare is vital to current and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Small Business Majority has created a comprehensive state policy agenda to ensure entrepreneurship is recognized as the lifeforce of a thriving and inclusive economy in California. The state’s 4.2 million small businesses comprise 99.9% of all businesses in the state, and they employ 7 million residents–nearly half of all California employees.

Small Business Majority’s Illinois policy agenda outlines policies that advance and promote equitable pathways for entrepreneurship while ensuring small businesses are key to a thriving and inclusive economy. Illinois' 1.3 million small businesses employ 2.3 million people, representing 43.6% of the private workforce. This agenda recognizes the distinct needs of both solopreneurs, who make up 80% of all businesses, and employer firms.

On February 22, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda testified before the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee in support of HB 23-126, legislation that would remove medical debt from credit reporting and protect marginalized communities across Colorado, including small employers and their employees.

Today, Public Policy Director and New Mexico Outreach Director submitted a letter to New Mexico's House Health & Human Services Committee in favor of HB 51, the Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) Act. This legislation would help address the high cost of prescription drugs, which have a great impact on small business owners who are struggling to offer healthcare benefits to their employees.
