Small business owners urge Congress to extend ACA Premium Tax Credits

On September 10, Small Business Majority hosted a congressional staff briefing highlighting the need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits (PTCs), which enable millions of small business owners, self-employed entrepreneurs and employees to access affordable, quality health coverage through the Marketplace each year. The briefing was held in partnership with Senators Jeanne Shaheen (NH) and Ron Wyden (OR), Families USA, the National Women’s Law Center, and Your Health Idaho. During the briefing, three Small Business Majority network members shared how the enhanced PTCs have helped them access affordable healthcare as solo-entrepreneurs with limited coverage options. The business owners also detailed how the expiration of the enhancements will make their monthly premium payments unaffordable, forcing them to choose between dropping healthcare coverage to continue running their business, or rejoining the workforce to access coverage through a larger employer.
