Family Medical Leave

Today, Small Business Majority along with 13 local, state, and national organizations, sent a letter to President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin urging the leaders to reignite negotiations surrounding the Build Back Better package. The Build Back Better package provisions include access to affordable healthcare, childcare, paid family and medical leave, and leveling the playing field on taxes, which would benefit the small business ecosystem. 

On September 2, Small Business Majority submitted procedural recommendations concerning the establishment and administration of premium collections for the Colorado Family Medical Leave Insurance program. This program will help level the playing field for small businesses that struggle to offer paid leave benefits to their employees.

Today, John Arensmeyer submitted a letter to congressional House and Senate leadership outlining the key provisions in the American Families Plan that would support small businesses. Additionally, the letter provides recommendations for how to structure tax reforms to ensure they level the playing field for small businesses. 

Small Business Majority has created a comprehensive state policy agenda to ensure entrepreneurship is at the center of a thriving and inclusive economy in Georgia. The state’s 1.4 million small businesses comprise 99.7% of all businesses in the state, and they employ 1.8 million residents—nearly half of all Georgia employees.

Today, small business owner Sandra Leibowitz submitted a letter of support to the House of Delegates, which would establish a state-run paid leave program in Virginia. Paid leave programs allow small business owners the ability to attract and retain employees without the hassle of managing the nuances of offering these benefits. 

Today, Small Business Majority submitted a comment for the Department of Labor's Request for Information outlining how paid leave policies support small businesses and their bottom lines. Commonsense paid leave policies support our evolving entrepreneurial community while ensuring small businesses can compete on a level playing field. 

As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise throughout the country, so does its impact on our economy. From stock market dips to decreased foot traffic in thriving neighborhoods, it's vital that our federal and state officials enact short and long-term policies that will offset these effects, particularly for our small business community, whose success is critical to our nation's economic health. Focusing on key policy issues will help support America's job creators.

Today, Virginia small business owner, Sandra Leibowitz, submitted a letter of support for HB 825 and SB 770, paid family and medical leave program. Implementing this state-run leave program helps small businesses to compete with larger companies by retaining employees while allowing those who need time off to take it without worrying about the cost.
