On September 9, Small Business Majority, along with 100+ business and advocacy organizations, signed on to a California Assembly Floor Alert in support of SB 590 (Durazo), which would allow qualifying workers to use California Paid Family Leave to care for a seriously ill “designated person,” meaning that California workers could use Paid Family Leave to care for a member of their chosen or extended family.

Small Business Majority submitted a letter to the California Senate Appropriations Committee in support of SB 590, which would allow qualifying workers to receive paid family leave (PFL) benefits to care for a designated person who is a member of their chosen or extended family.

In January 2024, Colorado launched the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program, offering up to 12 weeks of paid leave for workers dealing with serious health or family-related needs. While many small business owners support paid leave and value taking care of their employees, they’ve faced hurdles navigating FAMLI.
On February 26, New York Director Lindsey Vigoda testified in support of the 2025 Executive Budget Proposal to update the state's paid medical leave program.
Today, Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash sent a letter to the Pennsylvania House Labor & Industry Committee urging them to pass HB 200, which would create a paid family and medical leave insurance fund in the state. This program would allow small business owners to access and offer this benefit to their employees, helping them overcome challenges in the workforce.
On March 3, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash submitted writen testimony to the New Mexico House Health and Human Services Committee in opposition to House Bill 446, which would fall short of creating a robust family and medical leave program.
