On September 19, Small Business Majority submitted comments in opposition to a proposed rule issued by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to increase the monetary-based size standards which determine which businesses can qualify for federal assistance and contract opportunities. Increasing monetary-based size standards will ultimately allow larger, well-resourced businesses to gain access to federal contract opportunities that may have otherwise been set aside for smaller, under-resourced businesses.

On September 16, Small Business Majority submitted a statement for the record in response to a U.S. House Committee on Small Business hearing titled “Pathway to Capital: The Role of SBA Lending in Supporting Main Street America.” The statement details how recent changes made by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to the guidelines governing their flagship loan programs, which increase the cost of SBA loans and place new restrictions on loan eligibility, have created additional, unnecessary barriers to affordable and responsible capital for small businesses.

Andrea Deutsch participated in a press event hosted by Economic Security Project Action and Representative Adam Gray

This week, Small Business Majority network member Andrea Deutsch participated in a press event hosted by Economic Security Project Action and Representative Adam Gray (D-CA) in support of the Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act of 2025.

The legislation would repeal the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and make enhanced premium tax credits permanent, strengthening access to affordable coverage for small business owners and their employees.

On September 10, Small Business Majority hosted a congressional staff briefing highlighting the need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits (PTCs), which enable millions of small business owners, self-employed entrepreneurs and employees to access affordable, quality health coverage through the Marketplace each year. The briefing was held in partnership with Senators Jeanne Shaheen (NH) and Ron Wyden (OR), Families USA, the National Women’s Law Center, and Your Health Idaho.

On September 9, Small Business Majority, along with 100+ business and advocacy organizations, signed on to a California Assembly Floor Alert in support of SB 590 (Durazo), which would allow qualifying workers to use California Paid Family Leave to care for a seriously ill “designated person,” meaning that California workers could use Paid Family Leave to care for a member of their chosen or extended family.
