Memorandum in Support of New York's One Fair Price Package

Small Business Majority submitted an updated memorandum in support of New York's One Fair Price Package as it's because it's needed to protect New York small businesses and consumers from harmful business practices. The One Fair Price Act A9349B/S8623 would ban surveillance pricing in New York while the Protecting Consumers and Jobs from Discriminatory Pricing Act A9396A/S.8616A would ban the use of electronic shelf labels and prohibit surveillance pricing in grocery stores and pharmacies.

Small Business Majority offers this Memorandum to outline the necessary healthcare policy actions that small businesses require in the wake of federal cuts to Medicaid and the longtime epidemic of healthcare unaffordability in the state. 

Lack of access to affordable healthcare has, for a long time, been a major barrier to entrepreneurship in this country, and New York has the second highest health expenditures per capita, following only the District of Columbia, with more than 740,000 New Yorkers reporting having medical debt.

Over the past several months, Small Business Majority hosted five roundtable discussions with nearly 50 small business owners in Cortland, Long Island, Queens and Manhattan focusing on many of the biggest challenges small businesses are facing today, including rising healthcare costs, unpredictable tariffs, rising inflation and unaffordable living, difficulty accessing capital, workforce shortages and childcare access. The entrepreneurs also shared how running a business in 2026 can require mental and physical sacrifice as these challenges continue to escalate.

Small Business Majority supports New York City The Fine Transparency for Small Businesses Bill

Small Business Majority submits letter of support for Int 1132-2024, which would institute an annual study to collect data and analyze the fines imposed on small businesses across New York City. This report would increase transparency, ensure fairness, inform policy decisions and support the development of a targeted compliance support outreach program to help small businesses. Altogether, this new effort will provide small businesses across New York City with the tools they need to thrive.
