Meet our Outreach Team - Alberto Sanchez

Alberto Sanchez is the newest member of Small Business Majority’s Outreach Team, supporting entrepreneurship in Southern California. Our outreach team helps entrepreneurs on two fronts: It advocates for policies that benefit small businesses and it offers webinars and in-person events that offer entrepreneurs tips on how to grow their businesses. This work is important as the United States has seen record small business growth in recent years, yet we still struggle nationwide to help small businesses access capital, afford healthcare and childcare, and compete on a level playing field with large corporations.

We are spotlighting Alberto to help small business owners get to know him and to make Southern California entrepreneurs aware of the resources available to them.

Could you tell us about your position at Small Business Majority?

As Southern California Outreach Manager, I am an advocate on behalf of small businesses, working to promote a thriving and inclusive economy in Southern California. My role is to connect with small business owners, and to engage partners and stakeholders across the region.

Can you tell me a little bit about your background? What were you doing before you came to Small Business Majority? What brought you here?

Before Small Business Majority, I worked as a Field Representative in the San Diego and Imperial County region for former U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and then for U.S. Sen. Laphonza Butler. In those roles, I conducted legislative outreach in underserved communities and engaged community stakeholders. Additionally, I have a Master’s Degree in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.

I came to Small Business Majority because I truly care about small businesses and want to advocate for their success.

How will you work to support small businesses in your local community?

I will educate small business owners about available programs, resources and funding opportunities, and also will engage with them on legislative issues that impact their businesses. I believe in the importance of education and that access to information is crucial to the success of small businesses across the nation.

Why is your work with small business owners important to you?

My work with small business owners is important to me because it's personal; I grew up in a small business household. My parents immigrated here seeking the American Dream of one day becoming business owners. They accomplished it; however, it wasn't without its fair share of difficulty. When I was young, they had a business in the downtown area of my hometown. They sold Mexican art, and unfortunately due to not knowing about their rights or the benefits available to them, their first business went under. I am a firm believer that if my parents had knowledge of all the tools available to them, they would have succeeded with that first business. Fortunately, they didn't give up on their dream and started a new business in which things have gone well.

What goals do you hope to accomplish in your first year at Small Business Majority?

I want to learn as much as possible! Being knowledgeable will let me help more small business owners and have a far reaching impact on our communities.
