Small Business Majority

In response to drastic federal funding cuts, Small Business Majority has built the Small Business Rapid Response Coalition to communicate the importance of small business support agencies and programs. The coalition, which consists of more than 70 organizations, is amplifying the voices of entrepreneurs and engaging with policymakers to demonstrate the real-world benefits of small business funding to communities around the country.

Founder & CEO John Arensmeyer testified during a hearing on important issues currently facing small businesses, where he shared that small businesses nationwide are more concerned with burdensome tariffs, federal funding freezes, and cuts to essential federal agencies supporting small businesses than the effects of federal regulations.

The first report of our new quarterly Voice of Main Street opinion poll series assesses the challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs in our network are facing. The inaugural report finds that 53% of small businesses are concerned about how recently announced tariffs would negatively impact their business and 77% are concerned about their impact on the U.S. economy. Additionally, a number of entrepreneurs are concerned about mass deportations negatively affecting their businesses or their suppliers’ businesses, as well as the overall U.S. economy.

In February, the Small Business Tax Reform Coalition brought 30+ small business owners to Washington, DC to advocate for a tax code that prioritizes the needs of America’s entrepreneurs. Alongside our co-coalition member Main Street Alliance, Small Business Majority and Main Street Alliance network members attended more than 60 meetings with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill.

Sign this petition to tell Congress: Don't cut programs like premium tax credits, or care economy investments, to pay for tax cuts for large corporations!

Currently the federal Truth in Lending Act (TILA) requires that consumer creditors disclose critical financing information, including annual percentage rate (APR), in a clear and comparable format. However, Congress has yet to extend these disclosure requirements to small business loans and other credit products, which means small businesses are vulnerable to irresponsible lenders.

On April 1, Small Business Majority Founder & CEO John Arensmeyer testified before the U.S. House Committee on Small Business during a hearing titled “The Golden Age: Unleashing Main Street Through Deregulation.” In his testimony, John emphasized that small businesses nationwide are more concerned about burdensome tariffs, federal funding freezes, cuts to essential federal agencies supporting small businesses, and mass deportations than the effects of federal regulations.

New research: Small businesses are impacted by access to reproductive health

Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, reproductive healthcare access has changed dramatically across the country. These changes aren’t just affecting individuals—they’re also impacting small businesses. To develop a deeper understanding of how access to reproductive health services impacts entrepreneurs, Small Business Majority held three focus group discussions in January 2025 with small business owners from across nine states. Small Business Majority sends letter in opposition to Senate budget framework that opens the door for spending cuts to the small business ecosystem

On April 3, Small Business Majority sent a letter to Senate leadership in opposition to the budget framework released this week, which keeps trillions of dollars in spending cuts on the table and provides for more than $5 trillion in tax cuts that will largely benefit large corporations and wealthy individuals at the expense of small businesses.

President Trump’s new tariffs will devastate small businesses

“Far from a ‘Liberation Day’ today for small businesses, President Trump’s latest announcement that there will be new tariffs – including 10% on all imports – could spell doom for many small firms. We’ve heard from small business owners who said that any cost increases can be devastating for businesses already operating on thin margins. And widespread tariffs of the type the president just announced will mean most small businesses have no choice but to pass their costs on to customers. Larger businesses, however, are more likely to have flexibility to absorb increased overhead, keeping prices lower and undercutting their smaller competition.

Small Business Majority sends letter urging Congress to prioritize small businesses through a short-term, “clean” CR

On March 11, Small Business Majority sent a letter to House and Senate leadership ahead the consideration of a full-year continuing resolution (CR) to urge lawmakers to rather prioritize the needs of America's entrepreneurial community through the passage of a clean, short-term CR that allows Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to fulfill its duty of enacting all 12 FY25 appropriations bills to properly fund the agencies and programs that small businesses utilize to grow.

Small Business Majority Files Motions to Intervene in Defense of FTC Non-Compete Ban

On January 13, Small Business Majority asked the Fifth and 11th Circuit Courts to allow it to defend the Federal Trade Commission’s rule prohibiting non-compete agreements in case the incoming Trump administration does not support the rule. Small Business Majority believes it should be allowed to continue the defense on the basis that many small businesses are disadvantaged by non-compete clauses, which make it more difficult for small firms to find and hire new talent.
