Restricting Legal Immigration and Work Visas Will Harm Entrepreneurship and Economic Recovery

Washington, DC – Today, Small Business Majority’s National Latino Entrepreneurship Director, Xiomara Peña, issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement this week that it will suspend certain visas through the end of the year.

“Immigrants are the lifeblood of American entrepreneurship–they work for small businesses, start small businesses and bolster our economic success. Immigrants are twice as likely to start small businesses, and they create 1 in 10 U.S. jobs. As such, they are an essential component of our entrepreneurial, job-creating economy, which makes this week’s announcement all the more concerning.

Our nation is facing an unprecedented economic crisis, and our elected officials must consider policies that will foster, not stifle, our recovery. We oppose this decision and strongly urge the Administration to recognize the important role immigrants will play in our economic recovery.”
