President Biden’s Immediate Action on Immigration Will Strengthen the Small Business Community

For Immediate Release:

Statement from John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, on President Biden’s first executive orders and proposed legislation to reform our immigration system while growing the economy

“We are thrilled to see President Biden take immediate action today in delivering a comprehensive immigration reform proposal to Congress that will help bolster entrepreneurship and ensure small employers have access to a stable workforce. This step, along with signing executive orders focused on protecting those under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, will help preserve and strengthen a segment of the small business community that is essential to our economy. Additionally, these measures will help restore sensible and comprehensive policies that promote inclusion while protecting vulnerable individuals.

We need leaders who recognize that immigrants are the lifeblood of American entrepreneurship–they work for small businesses, start small businesses and bolster our economic success. Immigrants are twice as likely to start small businesses, and they create 1 in 10 U.S. jobs. This is why we are encouraged by President Biden’s urgency in protecting Dreamers and other immigrant entrepreneurs while ensuring small businesses are able to access both high and low-skilled employees, especially those who are providing essential services during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

We urge Congress to take up the immigration proposal immediately and we look forward to the successful long-overdue implementation of the DACA program.”
