DENVER: Today President Obama designated the archeological site Chimney Rock in Colorado as America's newest national monument. This announcement is good news for Colorado's small business owners and its economy.

People visit Colorado because of places like Chimney Rock, which boosts tourism dollars. But those same visits also cause many people to fall in love with Colorado's outdoor beauty and recreational opportunities and move here, starting businesses and growing our economy, said Tim Gaudette, Western Outreach Manager for Small Business Majority. Taking steps like this, and balancing energy development with protections for Chimney Rock and other public lands, is an investment in Colorado's future.

A Small Business Majority poll of Colorado small business owners found 65 percent believe designating new national parks and monuments would enhance local jobs and the economy. What's more, over half of Colorado's entrepreneurs find the president's all-of-the-above energy policy proposal, which promotes development of various energy sources like solar, wind, coal and natural gas, most attractive if it takes an extra step to protect public lands like Chimney Rock.

Small Business Majority's polling also found 72 percent of Colorado entrepreneurs believe it's important government continues to invest in clean energy. Through smart energy and preservation policies we can help entrepreneurs thrive, grow our economy and protect the local environment.
