Event open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about new small business and individual health insurance marketplaces

Lynwood, Calif.—Congresswoman Janice Hahn, members of the Board of Equalization, in conjunction with small business advocacy organization Small Business Majority, will host a Spanish-language webinar on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, on the healthcare law's impact on California small businesses and how they can benefit from the state's health insurance marketplace, Covered California.

Congresswoman Janice Hahn will join the call to outline the law's small business provisions and answer any questions small business owners have.

"Covered California is giving entrepreneurs and small business owners across the state the ability to get the health coverage they need for themselves, their families, and their employees at a price they can afford," said Congresswoman Janice Hahn. "I hope that at this event, local small business owners will be able to learn more about the health care options now available to them and why it's s a great time to get covered."

The free event, which is open to all small business owners, will feature Small Business Majority's Southern California Outreach Coordinator, Xiomara Peña, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses, including small business tax credits, wellness grants and cost containment provisions. Peña will also explain how the marketplace functions for self-employed business owners.

A question and answer period will follow. Local bilingual English-Spanish Certified Enrollment Counselors (CEC's), certified insurance agents, healthcare providers and other healthcare experts will be available for assistance.

"There's a tremendous need for Spanish language education in the small business community," said Peña. "The healthcare law contains critical information for small business owners and this event provides an opportunity to explain the healthcare terminology in a business owners' native language. Access to these new options, either the small business portal or the individual marketplace, will provide new options for many more entrepreneurs to obtain health insurance for their families and their employees."

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 13 from 8:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. (PDT) at Plaza Mexico, La Huasteca, 3150 E. Imperial Hwy., Lynwood, California.

Small business owners can register for the interactive event by calling (310) 831-1799.
