Ga. Court Decision Striking Down Six-Week Abortion Ban is a Welcome Win for Small Businesses
Statement from Rachel Shanklin, Georgia Director and National Women’s Entrepreneurship Director for Small Business Majority, on a Fulton County court’s declaration that Georgia’s highly restrictive abortion ban is unenforceable
“Having recently experienced blow after blow to their reproductive autonomy, women small business owners in Georgia are grateful that Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney so forcefully rejected Georgia’s six-week abortion ban. Women entrepreneurs have told us regularly that the freedom to decide if and when to have children played a critical role in their ability to start and grow a business, and without that choice they could not have succeeded in their careers. While we are well aware that the matter of abortion is far from settled in Georgia and elsewhere, we are hopeful that other courts will reject highly restrictive limitations to abortion rights because women entrepreneurs cannot thrive without full access to reproductive care.”
