Event Discusses How Clean Energy Resources and Policies Help the Small Business Community
Event open to all small businesses; chance for California entrepreneurs to learn about clean energy resources and policies that can benefit small business
Santa Clarita, Calif. — The Small Business Development Center of the College of the Canyons, in conjunction with small business organization Small Business Majority, will host an event on Friday, September 25, 2015, to discuss energy efficiency resources available to small business owners and how clean energy policies can help small business owners save money on their energy bills.
The event is part of the Energy Upgrade California initiative, which aims to educate residents and small businesses about managing their energy use. The initiative helps Californians take action—now—to save energy, conserve natural resources, reduce demand on the electric grid, use clean energy options, and make informed energy management choices at home and at work.
"Small businesses are eager to learn about pragmatic, innovative energy policies that will curb the effects of climate change and help reduce their ever-increasing energy costs," Catherine Grooms, Interim Director. "This event is a great way for small businesses to get the most up-to-date information on new energy policies and learn about how they can increase resiliency by integrating cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy systems."
The free event, which is open to all small business owners, will feature Small Business Majority's Xiomara Peña, Southern California Outreach Coordinator, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small employers, including small business support for clean energy policies; extreme weather events and their impact on small businesses and the economy; and resources available to small business owners to help them become more energy efficient and save money on utility bills.
A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
"As our policymakers move forward in implementing clean energy policies, it's important they understand the small business perspective so employers' unique needs and interests can be addressed," said Peña. "Since 2010, we've polled entrepreneurs on clean energy policies and found consistent and broad support. Clean energy policies reduce energy costs, help small businesses unleash new economic opportunities and spur economic growth in new energy infrastructure and energy efficiency technologies—all while addressing the growing threat of climate change."
The event will take place on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. — 9:30 a.m. PDT. The event will be held at the College of the Canyons, University Center, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Room 223, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.
