Approval of Fuel Efficiency Standards a Win for Small Businesses and California
Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:
The California Air Resources Board's approval today of standards requiring new cars to get 54.5 mpg by 2025 is a huge win for the state's entrepreneurs. Small business owners have voiced their support for stronger standards, which they know will help them save money while padding consumers' pockets, small businesses' customer base.
Recent polling we released found 80 percent of California small businesses believe it's important for the U.S. to take action now to increase fuel efficiency in cars and light trucks. In fact, four in five California small business owners said they would support raising the requirements to 60 mpg by 2025, an even higher standard than the one just approved.
Improved fuel standards will help cut long-term costs for small businesses, which will allow them to expand and create jobs. We commend CARB for listening to the small business community and passing these cost-saving standards. This is sure to be a boon for California's entrepreneurs and its struggling economy.
