Join Small Business Majority at California Asset Building Coalition's (CABC) two-day symposium where we will discuss the Coalition's collective power in 2023. We will hear from community leaders who have had direct experience with systemic and structural economic marginalization and identify local powerhouses for policy change.

Bianca Blomquist, Small Business Majority's Policy Director will join a panel on Tuesday, December 6 at 10:30am with Assemblymember Tina McKinnor (D-Inglewood), Jessica Bartholow, Chief of Staff for Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Oakland), Shimica Gaskins, President & CEO of GRACE, and Jeanne Kuang of CalMatters for a discussion of the 2023 legislative and political landscape and how it will impact small business owners in California.

Please join Start Small Think Big, the Latino Business Foundation of Silicon Valley, Small Business Majority and the City of San Jose as we discuss how to advocate for a commercial lease that is flexible and allows you to plan for change. Lawyers from the law firm of Goodwin Procter LLP will discuss the importance of including an option to extend, expand, and terminate your lease. We will also discuss tips for negotiating what you need in a lease, understanding costs, and knowing when to walk away.

Topics of discussion include:

  • Key terms of a lease, like rent, short-term and long-term leases
  • Essential lease issues, like the distribution of property expenses between landlord and tenant, like real estate taxes, property insurance, and conditions of the space
