On February 25th, the Small Business Tax Fairness Coalition (SBTF)—led by Small Business Majority and Main Street Alliance—brought 30 small business owners from 15 states and Washington, DC, to Capitol Hill for two days of advocacy. They urged policymakers to adopt strong, bottom-up tax reforms, including investments in care economy tax credits and 199A reform, to support the growth of the smallest businesses.
February 25th marked the first day of Hill meetings. 30 small business owners held 63 meetings with congressional offices and key committees over the course of the day. Small business owners discussed with Members of Congress and staff the importance of extending the ACA's Enhanced Premium Tax Credits, expanding the Child Tax Credit (CTC), reforming the 199A deduction to provide smaller businesses with a standard $25k deduction, and more. Business owners also discussed the impact of the federal funding freeze and how the House Republican budget resolution (which passed the House that same night) would bring severe cuts to programs that many of them rely on, including Medicaid.
