Small Business Majority supports New York City The Fine Transparency for Small Businesses Bill

Small Business Majority submits letter of support for Int 1132-2024, which would institute an annual study to collect data and analyze the fines imposed on small businesses across New York City. This report would increase transparency, ensure fairness, inform policy decisions and support the development of a targeted compliance support outreach program to help small businesses. Altogether, this new effort will provide small businesses across New York City with the tools they need to thrive.

Small Business Majority submits comments on proposed rule to rescind efforts to modernize the Community Reinvestment Act

On August 18, Small Business Majority submitted comments opposing a proposed rule from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Reserve Board, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to rescind the 2023 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) final rule. The 2023 rule represented decades of thoughtful feedback and progress on federal banking regulations, and rescinding it will roll back critical efforts to ensure financial institutions meet the evolving needs of rural and under-resourced small businesses.

Small Business Majority testifies in support of reducing credit card swipe fees

On April 14, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter testified in support of  HB25-1282, legislation that would prohibit payment credit card networks from charging certain predatory swipe fees and engaging in certain predatory swipe fee practices.

Small Business Majority sends letter to Colorado senators in support of SB25-157

On March 25, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson sent a letter to Senators Amabile, Ball, Bridges, Daugherty, Exum, Michaelsen Jenet and Sullivan urging them to support SB25-157. This legislation would modernize and strengthen Colorado’s consumer protection laws to better safeguard individuals, families and small businesses from fraudulent, deceptive and predatory business practices.

Small Business Majority sends letter to the Colorado Senate in support of HB25-1090

On March 24, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson sent a letter to the Colorado Senate urging them to pass HB25-1090. This legislation would allow Colorado’s consumers and small businesses to enjoy greater transparency when purchasing goods and services, or when renting property.

Small Business Majority testifies in support of strengthening protections against deceptive trade practices

Under current law, deceptive trade practices must significantly affect the public in order to violate the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. On March 11, Small Business Majority testified in support of Senate Bill 25-157, strengthen protections against deceptive trade practices for Colorado’s small businesses and consumers while protecting small businesses from wrongful accusations.

On February 19, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson testified in support of House Bill 25-1090, legislation that would provide greater transparency in pricing of goods, services and property for both consumers and small businesses, including common area maintenance (CAM) fees for small businesses.

Small Business Majority testifies in opposition to SB25-119

On February 14, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson submitted written testimony in oppostion to SB25-119, legislation that would repeal the Executive Director of the Department of Early Childhood’s rule-making authority and instead grant it to a school district-controlled board. This change would reduce efficiency, disrupt  program stability and limit parent and provider input in the rulemaking process.
