Advocacy in action: Small business owners connect with their representatives during August recess

In recent months, Congress passed legislation that will make healthcare coverage more expensive for small businesses and failed to take other important steps to reduce healthcare costs. This follows an extension of tax laws that do not provide Main Street businesses with meaningful tax relief. To help ensure that entrepreneurs have a seat at the table and that their concerns are heard by policymakers, Small Business Majority helped small business owners from across the nation take advantage of August recess to meet with their representatives and to advocate on important topics including relief from the high costs of healthcare.

Over 200 organizations and small businesses call on Congress to extend the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits

On September 2, Small Business Majority, alongside more than 200 partner organizations and small businesses, sent a letter to House and Senate leadership urging Congress to take immediate action to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, which are set to expire at the end of this year.

Small Business Majority testifies in support of lowering healthcare costs for Colorado's individual market

On August 21, Small Business Majority Colorado Director Hunter Nelson testified in support of  HB25B-1006, legislation that would loan $100 million from the Unclaimed Property Tax Cash Fund (UPTF) to the Health Insurance Affordability Enterprise (HIAE) in order to help fund programs under the enterprise that help lower healthcare costs for Coloradans on the individual market in the event that Congress fails to reauthorize the enhanced Premium Tax Credits (PTCs).

Small business owners urge Congress to prioritize small businesses through tax reform

On February 25, the Small Business Tax Fairness Coalition (SBTF) sent a petition to Capitol Hill signed by nearly 250 small business owners from across the country which urges Congress to prioritize small business growth and protect access to healthcare through targeted tax reform. The petition outlines how Congress can support small businesses by reforming the 199A pass-through deduction, expanding the Child Tax Credit (CTC), extending the Affordable Care Act's Enhanced Premium Tax Credits, and adopting commonsense revenue measures, such as raising the corporate tax rate.

Georgia Healthcare Agent Talks Open Enrollment and Supreme Court Hearings

With open enrollment for 2021 now live and U.S. Supreme Court hearings that could determine the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) happening this week, healthcare is top of mind for many small business owners. Rich Gordon, a solo-entrepreneur and healthcare agent in Georgia is amongst them.

Congress included in the Affordable Care Act a significant new tax credit for small business owners who provide their workers with health insurance. Under this new tax credit, businesses that have fewer than 25 full-time workers and average wages of less than $50,000 are now eligible to receive a tax credit of up to 35% of the cost of the health insurance that they provide for their workers.
