Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, on why a new Department of Labor proposed rule is important to small employers

“We are thrilled the U.S. Department of Labor is taking action to rescind a Trump Administration policy that sought to expand association health plans. While some claim that association health plans can lower costs for some small businesses, they would in fact harm small firms overall by causing higher premiums, unbalanced risk pools and lower-quality insurance.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, urging President Biden to veto a resolution overturning the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s ability to increase transparency in small business lending

“Small Business Majority strongly opposes the U.S. House of Representatives’ action to block the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) from implementing the Section 1071 rule, requiring lenders to report demographic data on small business loan recipients.

The CFPB’s rule implementing Section 1071 of the Dodd-Frank Act will facilitate better tracking of lending in communities of color and identify business development opportunities for entrepreneurs who have traditionally experienced inequities in our banking system.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, on the importance of ensuring the CRA supports access to small business lending for under-resourced entrepreneurs

“The final Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) rule is a step towards modernizing and strengthening the implementation of the CRA and encouraging banks to invest in small businesses in under-resourced communities.

The CRA was long overdue for reform to reflect our 21st century lending marketplace, and the new rule ensures greater access to small business lending for under-resourced entrepreneurs.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, urging President Biden to veto Senate bill that overturns Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s ability to increase transparency in small business lending

“The U.S. Senate’s action on legislation overturning the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Section 1071 rule requiring lenders to report demographic data on small business loan recipients is a regrettable setback for entrepreneurs.

The CFPB’s rule implementing Section 1071 of the Dodd-Frank Act would facilitate better tracking of lending in communities of color and identify business development opportunities for entrepreneurs who have traditionally experienced inequities in our banking system.
