Paid leave is a policy that allows workers to take paid time off of work to welcome a new family member, take care of themselves, or take care of a loved one. Creating a state-run paid family leave and medical leave insurance program would allow small business employees and the self-employed to access parental leave or to handle serious health conditions for themselves and family members. Such programs have been implemented in several states, and research has found they have not placed a burden on small businesses, allowing them to facilitate access to this benefit that small businesses typically cannot afford.
Come out tomorrow and join Small Business Majority, Poder Latinx and the GA Paid Leave Coalition for a community movie screening of “Zero Weeks,” a documentary highlighting the paid leave crisis in the United States. I will be sharing remarks about why Georgia small businesses and workers would greatly benefit from having access to paid family and medical leave!
