Small Business Anti-Displacement Network (SBAN): Strengthening Community

Please join Small Business Majority at Small Business Anti-Displacement Network's 2023 national conference, Strengthening Community & Building Opportunity.

During our first breakout session, we will be moderating a panel with Opportunity Finance Network, the Maryland Retailers Association, Accion Opportunity Fund, and the Responsible Business Lending Coalition, and highlight how financial protections for small business owners help to promote community control, ownership, and create opportunities for small business growth and sustainability in BIPOC and immigrant communities. 

Topics of discussion include:

• The federal Truth in Lending Act (TILA) bill and how it protects entrepreneurship
• State truth-in-lending bills that work to promote transparency
• Concrete "Calls to Action", and how to spot "bad bills" in your state

During our second breakout session, we will be joining Main Street America, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), and the Institute for Local Self Reliance (ILSR) to discuss issues related to commercial property ownership. 

• Topics of discussion include:
• How can SBAN and its network advocate for federal policies to curb displacement
• Pathways to support small businesses to grow and remain in place, through existing federal programs, ideal policy solutions, and emerging coalitions
• Tips and guidance on how the SBAN network can use its message and reach to engage policymakers
