Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Today's report on the economic benefits of the Clean Air Act, released by the Environmental Protection Agency, shows that the Clean Air Act is good for businesses bottom lines and the financial health of the economy overall.

The $2 trillion in benefits the EPA documented from the Clean Air Act include reduced healthcare costs for private employers, including small businesses, and reduced employee absenteeism. This study backs up an analysis of the law we released in October of last year showing that it has cultivated prolonged economic growth and development by protecting public health and the environment. Moreover, the Act has driven important technological innovations, such as the catalytic converter, which have allowed American companies to become world leaders in environmental control technologies and while creating millions of jobs.

We urge policymakers to continue enforcing the Clean Air Act responsibly so small businesses, and the millions of American workers they employ, can keep taking advantage of the numerous benefits it provides.

Small Business Majority is a national nonprofit organization focused on solving the biggest problems facing America's 28 million small businesses. We conduct extensive opinion and economic research and work with small business owners, policy experts and elected officials nationwide to bring nonpartisan small business voices to the public policy table.
