Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

America has an employment problem, and to fix it Congress must pass a jobs bill that boosts small businesses and puts people back to work. We're pleased to see Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid introduce a jobs plan that would provide small businesses with opportunities to survive and thrive. Both Reid and the president realize that to get the economy back on track, something must be done soon, which is why we encourage passage of a jobs bill now.

Both jobs plans on the table will create new avenues for job growth and economic prosperity, with small businesses leading the way. However, there is more to do. We encourage lawmakers to develop and support programs that will provide small businesses with the cash flow they need to keep their doors open, hire more workers and pursue opportunities to innovate.

We are happy to see the Senate moving forward in introducing a jobs bill. Small businesses would gain new opportunities to flourish under it. It is vital for small business, the economy and the 14 million Americans who are out of work that a jobs bill get passed now. We need it in order to crank up the small business job creation engine and stop this recession dead in its tracks.
