Ohio Small Businesses Sign Pledge Supporting Clean Energy Policies
Small business owners in Ohio pledge their support to securing 50 percent of our nation's energy from clean energy sources by 2030
Columbus, Ohio—As part of Small Business Majority's statewide sign-on campaign, 20 small business owners from across the state have signed a letter pledging to support securing 50 percent of our nation's energy from clean energy sources by 2030.
Ohio has an opportunity to become an economic leader by committing to clean energy, and small business owners are eager to unleash these benefits. Committing to clean energy can create up to 56,000 additional Ohio jobs by 2030 and 87,000 new jobs by 2050. The overall benefit to Ohio's economy is slated to be around $9.5 billion by 2030. Plus, clean energy can create savings for Ohio's small businesses by increasing energy efficiency and lowering electricity bills.
"I signed onto Small Business Majority's letter because I know clean energy will create jobs and strengthen Ohio's economy," said James Carey, owner of Wootown Bagels in Wooster. "That will boost spending at my small business. Plus, energy savings will help me reduce costs so I can invest more in my business. Ultimately, clean energy is good for small business owners like me."
Small Business Majority's scientific opinion polling found 66 percent of Ohio small business owners believe it's important that the government continues to invest in clean energy. Nationally, 87 percent of small business owners believe improving innovation and energy efficiency are good ways to increase prosperity for small businesses.
"Clean energy can help small businesses' bottom lines by reducing costs and promoting innovation," said Michaela Hahn Burriss, Midwest Outreach Manager for Small Business Majority. "It's an easy choice to support clean energy if you support Ohio's small businesses."
