Medicaid Expansion In Missouri: What Small Businesses Need To Know
Free event open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about how Medicaid expansion would impact small businesses, the economy and the community
St. Peters, Mo.—Small business advocacy organization, Small Business Majority, will host an interactive event on Thursday, June 4, 2015, on the impact Medicaid expansion would have on Missouri small businesses, their employees and the local community.
Last month, the legislature failed to pass meaningful legislation that would have fully expanded Medicaid in Missouri under the Affordable Care Act. Since lawmakers were unable to come to a decision on legislation before session adjourned for the year, Missouri continues to have the lowest eligibility allowed under federal law for low-income adults.
The free event, which is open to all small business owners, will feature Small Business Majority's Midwest Outreach Manager, Mary Timmel, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses, including how Medicaid expansion would boost their bottom lines, make small businesses more competitive and help rein in small business owners' healthcare premium costs.
A question and answer period will follow the discussion.
"While Missouri decided not to expand the state's Medicaid program before adjourning for the year, there is no deadline to accept federal dollars for expanding Medicaid," said Timmel. "Medicaid expansion would cover about 300,000 additional Missourians, most of them low-wage working adults, and create a healthier and more productive workforce. We urge Missouri lawmakers to stop delaying and expand Medicaid as soon as possible."
The event will take place on Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 6:30pm — 8:00pm CDT. Small business owners can register for the event online at: http://host5.evanced.info/stcharles/evanced/eventsignup.asp?ID=38678
