Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority, about the bipartisan transportation bill passed today in the Senate:

The bipartisan transportation bill passed in the Senate today would create an environment conducive to small business growth if enacted. We applaud senators for working together toward the good of our nation's entrepreneurs.

Recent opinion polling we released found 69 percent of small businesses support investing in new and existing infrastructure projects, like roads, bridges and water systems, to create jobs. The Senate's bill would put $109 billion toward the repair of the country's dilapidated system of highways, roadways, railways and bridges. These projects would benefit small businesses in myriad ways. Not only would small businesses participate in building projects and their supply chain, they run the hotels, coffee shops, restaurants and other businesses that serve people working on those projects.

We're pleased lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are working together. We encourage lawmakers in the House of Representatives to do the same and pass a complementary bill so this important work can be sent to the president's desk for approval. Small businesses need all the help they can get to resume their role as our nation's primary job creators.
