Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, on President Obama's designation of Nevada's Basin and Range area as a national monument, which can provide increased opportunities for entrepreneurs and local economies

President Obama designated a new national monument today at Basin and Range in Nye and Lincoln counties. This is great news for small businesses, because entrepreneurs know protecting our natural assets is one way we can enhance the financial success of small businesses and local economies. Small business owners in Nevada strongly believe the designation of additional national parks and monuments enhances local jobs and the economy.

Public lands are not only important to businesses associated with the outdoor or the tourist trade. Small Business Majority's opinion polling found entrepreneurs are increasingly relocating to Nevada because of its outdoor way of life. What's more, more than two in five New Mexico small business owners do business in this state because of opportunities tied to public lands, and nearly three-quarters of entrepreneurs support designating more of Nevada's public lands as national monuments.

Nevada's parks and public lands matter to local economies and small businesses. Protecting our national heritage is important to our economic sustainability, and our legacy to future generations. The president's designation of this new national monument is a step forward to supporting public lands, small businesses and the economy.
