President̢??‰?s Budget Plan Addresses Key Provisions for Small Businesses

For Immediate Release:

Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, in response to President Obama̢??‰?s proposed 2015 budget

The president̢??‰?s 2015 budget plan includes key provisions small businesses support and have long been asking for, such as closing tax loopholes that benefit large corporations and creating manufacturing, infrastructure and clean energy initiatives that can provide small businesses with economic opportunities and encourage job growth.

Small Business Majority̢??‰?s scientific opinion polling shows America̢??‰?s primary job creators support many of the proposals in the president̢??‰?s budget, including:

  • Eliminating loopholes for large corporations that have foreign operations, and for foreign corporations that have divisions here in the United States. Small Business Majority̢??‰?s opinion polling found small employers strongly support closing tax loopholes that benefit large corporations, gas and oil companies and hedge fund managers. They also support reducing the corporate tax rate while remaining revenue neutral by closing tax loopholes that favor large corporations.
  • Investing in energy efficiency and climate change preparedness. Our research shows nearly nine in 10 small business owners believe improving innovation and energy efficiency are highly effective ways to increase prosperity for small businesses. What̢??‰?s more, nearly six in 10 believe climate change and extreme weather events are an urgent problem that can disrupt the economy and harm small businesses, and support government investments in clean energy standards that help mitigate the impacts of climate change.
  • Boosting investments in manufacturing, infrastructure and innovation. Our polling found nearly seven in 10 small employers support investing in infrastructure projects that would create jobs while repairing our aging roads and bridges.

Our economy is slowly recovering, but it̢??‰?s still fragile. Small businesses need a pragmatic blueprint that provides certainty and opportunities for the future. We hope lawmakers will put their partisan differences aside and agree on a budget for 2015 that instates smart, small business-friendly policies that help our job creators do what they do best: put America to work.
