Interactive call open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about individual and small business health insurance marketplaces

Portland, Ore.—The Portland District Office of the Small Business Administration, in conjunction with small business organization Small Business Majority, will hold webinars on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, and Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, on the healthcare law's impact on Oregon small businesses and how entrepreneurs can access health insurance even though the state's marketplace, Cover Oregon, is no longer available.

"We believe it's important for small business owners to learn more about the healthcare law and how it affects them," said Larry Trujillo of the Portland District Office of the Small Business Administration. "These interactive dialogues are a great way for small businesses to get the information they need to take advantage of and comply with key provisions of the healthcare law, and for us to get feedback on their thoughts and concerns."

These free webinars, which are open to all small business owners, will feature Small Business Majority's Northwest Outreach Manager, Jarvez Hall, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses, including wellness grants, cost containment provisions, and how small employers can access tax incentives such as the Small Business Tax Credit and Advanced Premium Tax Credit. Hall will provide detailed information on Cover Oregon and explain how renewal will work for those who were covered through Cover Oregon in 2014. Hall will also explain how entrepreneurs and their employees can obtain healthcare coverage through the individual marketplace before the Feb. 15 open enrollment deadline.

A question and answer period will follow the discussion.

"Whether or not small businesses are providing coverage, their employees often look to them for information about healthcare options," said Hall. "By having a greater understanding about the Affordable Care Act, small business owners can educate their employees about the various options available to them to purchase affordable health insurance, either through employer-sponsored health coverage or the individual marketplaces."

The webinars will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 3 and Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 9am — 10am (PST).
