Event open to all small businesses, insurance agents and brokers; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about healthcare law and share ideas about how to implement it in Missouri

Springfield, MO̢??‰۝The University of Missouri Extension, Taney County Small Business and Technology Development Center, in conjunction with small business advocacy organization Small Business Majority, will host an interactive event on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 on the healthcare law̢??‰?s impact to Missouri small businesses and how small businesses can benefit from the health insurance marketplace.

̢???We believe it̢??‰?s important for small business owners to learn more about the healthcare law and how it affects them,̢???? said Chrystal Irons, Business Development Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, Taney County SBTDC. ̢???These interactive dialogues are a great way for them to get the information they need to take advantage of and comply with key provisions of the new law, and for us to get feedback on their thoughts and concerns.̢????

The free event, which is open to all small business owners, insurance agents and brokers, will feature Irons and Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Health Coverage Guide and Certified Application Counselor, Mary Moore, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses. These include small business tax credits, wellness grants and cost containment provisions. Moore will also provide detailed information on the Missouri health insurance marketplace̢??‰۝an online exchange where small business owners can pool their buying power to help drive down insurance costs. Missouri has a federally facilitated marketplace because state lawmakers chose not to create their own. Moore will explain how the exchange functions and how small employers can join.

A question and answer period will follow the discussion and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their SHOP enrollment needs with experts and make appointments for one-on-one assistance.

̢???Access to the new health insurance marketplace will provide new options for many entrepreneurs to obtain health insurance for them and their employees. This marketplace will allow small employers to pool their buying power, which will rein in costs and help them better afford health insurance,̢????said Moore. ̢???These events will inform small business owners about how the marketplaces and the Affordable Care Act̢??‰?s other business-friendly provisions can help so they can take advantage of them.̢????

The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 from 10 a.m. ̢??‰?? 11:30 a.m. CST at the Library Center, 4653 South Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO 65810. Small business owners can register for the event at https://aca-shopmarketplace.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact Mary Moore at [email protected].
