Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

A National Federation of Independent Businesses poll released today shows what has long been established fact, there is a lot of confusion about what the Affordable Care Act means for small businesses. This is understandable given the NFIB has spent considerable effort over the past year trying to derail the law and confuse business owners about how it will impact them. But the fact is, the NFIB poll only tells half the story.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

The Senate Health Committee's passage today of AB 52 puts California small businesses one step closer to being better protected from excessive health insurance rate hikes. AB 52 builds on the safeguards of federal healthcare reform, and will give small businesses the same type of defense from unreasonable premium increases that homeowners and auto insurance policyholders have. The Health Committee should be commended for its work on this issue.

This bill is a commonsense measure that strikes the right balance between getting small businesses, access to high-quality, affordable insurance and maintaining a competitive, robust healthcare industry in the state.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Senators stood up for America's 28 million small businesses today and defeated the Senate version of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's proposed 2012 budget. This irresponsible measure that passed the House of Representatives last month would deny small businesses the financial support they need to stay ahead, jeopardizing our economic recovery and putting small business jobs in peril.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Today some members of the Senate put politics over good public policy and blocked the long-term reauthorization of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This cynical move is the latest in a series of political games that deny small businesses the tools they need to encourage innovation, economic growth and job creation. We call on these obstructionists who claim to support small businesses to match their words with deeds and end the blockage of this vital legislation.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Today the House of Representatives passed legislation blocking funds for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and specifically the state health insurance exchanges, one of the most important parts of healthcare reform for small businesses. Defunding critical components of the new law will do nothing to lower healthcare costs for small businesses and help our economy grow.
