MEDIA ADVISORY: Small Business Majority, St. Louis Treasurer’s Office of Financial Empowerment to Host Women’s Entrepreneurship Seminar

For Immediate Release:
Thursday, September 20, 2018

WHAT: Small Business Majority, in partnership with the City of St. Louis Treasurer's Office of Financial Empowerment, is celebrating National Women's Small Business Month with a host of in-person presentations, workshops and networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs in October.

This month-long celebration will launch on Oct. 1 at the St. Louis Public Library. St. Louis City Treasurer Tishaura Jones will headline the event, which will also include panel discussions and presentations on topics like mentoring and small business lending.

Small Business Majority and Treasurer Jones are hosting this event because of a shared commitment to helping women entrepreneurs succeed. Women are starting small businesses at a higher rate than men, and their businesses are generating jobs and business revenues above the national average. What’s more, women of color are creating businesses faster than the rest of the population: Seventy-nine percent of businesses started by women since 2007 were started by women of color. Supporting female entrepreneurs, especially women of color, has the potential to unlock tremendous growth for our communities.

The Oct. 1 event is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required.

Additional events in this series will take place on Oct. 13, oct. 20, Oct. 22 and Oct. 24. They will include roundtable discussions, workshops and resources for women business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.

WHEN: Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm CDT

WHERE: St. Louis Public Library, 1301 Olive Street St. Louis, Mo. 63103
