On February 16, LaJuanna Russell, founder and president of Business Management Associates, Inc. (BMA) and the Chair of the Board of Directors and a member of the Small Business Council for Small Business Majority, testified before the U.S. House Committee on the Budget on a proposal to eliminate the U.S. debt limit, which would help mitigate financial risks and uncertainty for businesses of all sizes.

Today, John Arensmeyer submitted comments on the notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) issued by the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), titled “Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Requirements” (RIN 1506-AB49), regarding the implementation of the recently enacted Corporate Transparency Act of 2020 (CTA). An anti-money laundering measure, the CTA requires FinCEN to establish a secure database to which U.S. companies submit basic identifying information of their true, “beneficial” owners.

Today, Small Business Majority along with 13 local, state, and national organizations, sent a letter to President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin urging the leaders to reignite negotiations surrounding the Build Back Better package. The Build Back Better package provisions include access to affordable healthcare, childcare, paid family and medical leave, and leveling the playing field on taxes, which would benefit the small business ecosystem.

Today, Small Business Majority, American Booksellers Association, American Independent Business Alliance, American Sustainable Business Network, Common Future, and Main Street Alliance sent a letter to Congressional leaders underscoring the importance of passing the budget reconciliation package. America’s small businesses owners will benefit from the budget reconciliation package because it proposes bold long-term investments into the small business ecosystem.

On December 30, Small Business Majority alongside the American Independent Business Alliance and network member Mary Sue Milliken filed an amicus brief urging the court to uphold the administration’s COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements for businesses with 100 or more employees. The brief outlines how workplace-related safety policies will impact small businesses, as well as research demonstrating the strong support for the rule from the business community.

Today, John Arensmeyer shared a letter with leaders of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, encouraging the swift confirmation of David Weil, President Biden's nominee for Administrator at the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor. David Weil is well-equipped to lead the Wage and Hour Division, particularly because he has direct experience in the role. Weil previously held the position during President Barack Obama’s administration from 2014 to 2017 and believes quality jobs are essential to a small business ecosystem.

On December 7, Small Business Majority submitted an amicus brief alongside network member Mary Sue Milliken and the American Independent Business Alliance urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit to uphold the administration's COVID-19 vaccine and testing requirement for businesses with 100 or more employees. The brief outlines the strong support for the rule from the business community, and it explains how the vaccine requirement would help protect small businesses from additional shutdown orders and economic setbacks.

Today, Small Business Majority, Main Street Alliance and American Sustainable Business Network sent a letter to Congressional leaders underscoring their support of the Child Tax Credit (CTC). America’s entrepreneurs will benefit from the CTC because it has been proven to encourage entrepreneurship. Self-employment grew after CTC payments, particularly among low-income parents.
