A disparity study is an essential first step towards passing policy solutions that would allow more women- and minority-owned small businesses to compete on a level playing field with other businesses.

This week kicks off National Small Business Week when just last week, new data revealed small businesses across the country are closing permanently. The consequences of not passing a relief package that includes more funding for small businesses would be catastrophic.

Today, Small Business Majority submitted a letter of support for Amendment Item 4-14 #5-H, Tax Credit for PPE Purchased by Small Business and Other Organizations. This would create a tax credit for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) by small businesses, sole proprietors and other eligible organizations. The amendment also specifies that the credit is meant to include women-owned and minority-owned businesses, as these are groups that are often left behind by the tax code.

Small Business Majority writes in support of SB 977, which would give the Attorney General more authority to counter the anti-competitive effects of healthcare consolidation that could increase the cost of healthcare and limit the access to it. This issue is of particular concern to our small businesses that are struggling with healthcare costs.

Small Business Majority wrote to State Senator Richard Pan in support of SB 852, which would create the Office of Drug Contracting and Manufacturing in order to increase access to, and reduce the cost of, generic medications. We believe this is a key measure to controlling healthcare costs and improving access and affordability for consumers, including small business owners and their employees.

Small Business Majority submitted a letter to Assembly Member Gonzalez in support of AB 3205, which creates the Regions Rise Grant Program in the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), a significant tool to promote sustainable and equitable economic rebuilding of regional economies, and with it, our small businesses
