Small Business Majority has released its comprehensive state policy agenda to ensure entrepreneurship is at the center of a thriving and inclusive economy in Virginia during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s critical that state lawmakers enact policies to support and empower these entrepreneurs by guaranteeing that they have access to capital to sustain their businesses, affordable and quality healthcare and the tools and benefits they need to grow now and in the future.

Today, John Arensmeyer shared a letter with leaders of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, encouraging the swift confirmation of David Weil, President Biden's nominee for Administrator at the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor. David Weil is well-equipped to lead the Wage and Hour Division, particularly because he has direct experience in the role. Weil previously held the position during President Barack Obama’s administration from 2014 to 2017 and believes quality jobs are essential to a small business ecosystem.

On December 7, Small Business Majority submitted an amicus brief alongside network member Mary Sue Milliken and the American Independent Business Alliance urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit to uphold the administration's COVID-19 vaccine and testing requirement for businesses with 100 or more employees. The brief outlines the strong support for the rule from the business community, and it explains how the vaccine requirement would help protect small businesses from additional shutdown orders and economic setbacks.

Today, Small Business Majority, Main Street Alliance and American Sustainable Business Network sent a letter to Congressional leaders underscoring their support of the Child Tax Credit (CTC). America’s entrepreneurs will benefit from the CTC because it has been proven to encourage entrepreneurship. Self-employment grew after CTC payments, particularly among low-income parents.

On October 21, Small Business Majority submitted procedural recommendations concerning the establishment of the Standardized Health Benefit Plan Colorado Option. This program will address racial inequities in Colorado’s healthcare system to ensure that all small businesses in Colorado have access to a robust, more affordable and comprehensive healthcare option.

This legislation will combat ageism in lending and uplift entrepreneurs of color and women entrepreneurs.

Hundreds of small business owners have added their names onto a sign-on letter calling on Congress to immediately invest in human infrastructure. Entrepreneurs and employees need access to benefits that will help us compete and ensure employees have the resources they need to fully participate in the workforce, as well as reforms to level the playing field for small businesses, particularly when it comes to tax reform.

The letter outlines Mr. Syed's qualifications for the role and urges the Committee to advance his nomination swiftly.

President and CEO of Small Business Majority, John Arensmeyer, submitted a letter of support for the provisions in the Small Business title of the Budget Reconciliation package. The provisions in the Small Business Committee title will make $25 billion worth of critical investments for small businesses on their road to recovery. Mr. Arensmeyer called on Congress to immediately pass these measures as part of the package.
