The state is comprised of more than 3.3 million small businesses employing 4.9 million people. This is why it’s critical that state lawmakers enact policies and programs to support and empower these entrepreneurs, guaranteeing they have access to critical resources and incentives to start and grow their business.
Policy Statements
On January 29, 2025, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation urging them to pass legislation extending the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits that make health insurance more affordable for entrepreneurs and their employees.
On January 27, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash testified before the New Mexico House Health & Human Services Committee in support of HB 11 “Paid Family and Medical Leave Act," which would create a state-run paid family and medical leave program in New Mexico.

On January 23, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash sent a letter to Virginia House Labor and Commerce Committee Chairwoman Jeion A. Ward in support of HB 2531, paid family and medical leave insurance program; notice requirements, civil action. This legislation would create a state-run paid family and medical leave program in Virginia.
On January 21, Small Business Majority submitted comments in response to a proposed rule issued by the Department of Defense (D0D), General Services Administration (GSA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to increase the sole source threshold to inflation for small businesses bidding for federal procurement opportunities.
On January 16, Small Business Majority Director Hunter Nelson sent a comment letter to Colorado Department of Early Childhood Executive Director Dr. Roy in supoort of the proposed Colorado Child Care Assistance Program rule to implement HB24-1223.
On January 15, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash submitted a comment letter to Virginia House Appropriations Chairman Luke E. Torian urging the Committee to pass HB 1724, the Prescription Drug Affordability Board established; drug cost affordability review.

On January 13, Small Business Majority filed a motion to the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits for permission to intervene in two lawsuits challenging the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) final rule that would ban the use of non-compete agreement in most cases.
