As California faces record unemployment, it's important to know that some entity designations impact what you pay into or are eligible for in unemployment benefits. Here, we will pay special attention to child care providers, although this webinar is applicable to all business owners.

Join the North Coast SBDC, Women's Business Center at JEDI, Start Small Think Big! and Small Business Majority for our Small Biz Pro Tip series. With a lawyer, we'll walk through the various legal structures that are available to you if you decide to start your own child care business (e.g., LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, Sole Proprietorship, etc.) and compare their tax consequences. This workshop will be an important first step in building a child care business but will be applicable to all entrepreneurs.

Topics Include:

  • An overview of Sole-Proprietorships, Limited Liability Corporations (LLC), C-Corps and S-Corps
  • Why forming an S or C Corporation only makes sense for a small number of child care providers
  • Best legal structures for at home daycare providers and out of home daycare providers
  • Free resources for your small business

A 30-minute question and answer period with an attorney will follow.

Start Small Think Big! and Small Business Majority have teamed up to design a legal workshop series called Small Biz Pro Tip, a free workshop series facilitated by lawyers and small business policy experts, designed for California small business owners that are expanding on or improving upon their business and need access to guidance from employment, tax and labor attorneys.
