As California faces a projected budget shortfall from $38 billion to $73 billion over the next three years, large corporate profits continue to soar and are near record highs. Yet, these corporations pay about half of what they did in state taxes a generation ago. Meanwhile, small business owners still struggle to keep their doors open and to provide quality jobs to their employees. Please join Small Business Majority, California Work & Family Coalition and the California Budget & Policy Center as we dive into a new ballot measure that may appear on the November ballot sponsored by corporate interests that would exacerbate the challenges state and local governments face in raising revenues to support small business programs. We will also discuss how the corporate tax system can be made more fair for California small business owners and employees. These additional revenues could help the state avoid cuts to small business services in the short term, and to support and strengthen small business services in the long run.
