Small Business Majority Talks Healthcare Reform with Farm Businesses

With full implementation of healthcare reform just a few weeks away, our team is working harder than ever to educate small business owners across the nation about the new health insurance marketplaces. In fact, last month alone we held nearly 100 outreach events for small business owners. We also recently launched a series of websites that walk small business owners through the small business marketplaces and provide resources that will help them begin the enrollment process.

As part of our continuing outreach efforts, I spoke today at the DTN/The Progressive Farmer Ag Summit in Chicago, an event that brings together industry experts and farmers to discuss the opportunities and risks that face farm businesses today. I spoke about what the new healthcare law means for agricultural small businesses and provided information about the federal and state provisions of the law and resources that are available for small business owners.

Entrepreneurs need to be informed about how important the new health insurance marketplaces are for their business. Despite the delay of online enrollment through the federal small business marketplace, they can still offer the most competitive combination of price and quality for small businesses purchasing health insurance. It’s important we continue educating small employers about the alternative pathways for enrolling in the marketplace so they have the opportunity to find more affordable health coverage for themselves and their employees.

As I emphasized today during the summit, it’s absolutely imperative owners get information now about their healthcare options and begin enrolling in a plan so they have coverage come January 1.
