California Healthcare Expert and Small Business Owners Available to Give Small Business Perspective on Affordable Care Act Repeal

For Immediate Release:
Thursday, January 5, 2017

Mark Herbert, California Director for Small Business Majority, is available to speak to media about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how it has helped small business owners. Small business owners around the state are also available to share their personal ACA success stories.

Who: Small business and economic expert Mark Herbert, California Director for Small Business Majority, is available to speak to media about the ways in which small employers have benefited from the Affordable Care Act.

“The Affordable Care Act is the first policy that has made a real difference in lowering healthcare costs for small business owners,” Herbert said. “In addition to the financial support that enables entrepreneurs and small business employees to purchase medical insurance in competitive markets like California, the law has enabled expansion of Medi-Cal, the state’s Medicaid program, helping the lowest-income small business employees to obtain health coverage. What’s more, 28 percent the 22 million self-employed Americans were uninsured before the ACA—many because of pre-existing conditions. Now those entrepreneurs can obtain quality, affordable health insurance.

Unfortunately, California will be hit especially hard if the ACA is fully repealed. Without the ACA in place, rates will skyrocket, employers will drop or limit their coverage offerings and workers will lose insurance. Politicians who fail to understand what is at stake when it comes to the ACA are not doing their job and they’re not looking out for the best interests of our nation’s small business owners.”

When: Mark Herbert is available for interviews this week and next. Small business owner around the state are also available for interviews.
